Students’ Loan Trust Fund Inaugurates New Desk at UDS Tamale Campus

In an effort to facilitate easier access to student loans, the Students’ Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has established a dedicated desk at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale Campus. The students loan desk was unveiled in a brief ceremony held in the office of the Dean of Students Affairs on Thursday June 13, 2024.

To grace the occasion, the University Management as well as the student leadership were highly represented. The Dean of Students, Dr. Alhassan Musah, the Vice-Dean of Students, Dr. Umar Haruna, the Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Wahab Yahya, the Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Abdul Hayi Moomen, the Local NUGS President, Mr. Issah Abdul Manaan, and the Zonal Manager of  SLTF, Mr. Rogation K. Sibaabe,, as well as other staff and student leaders were present.

Mr. Sibaabe, in his opening remarks, highlighted that the establishment of the desk was aimed at bringing SLTF services closer to the students thereby reducing the costs of transportation and its associated risks. He added that the move will reduce the disruption of students’ academic work, as they had to travel for a long distance outside the University Campus to access the SLTF services. He concluded by urging students with financial needs to visit the office for bail out.

Mr. Manaan on his part, expressed enthusiasm for the establishment and highlighted the relevance of the desk. He noted that students, particularly those unfamiliar with the Tamale township find it difficult locating the Loan Office after completing the online processes. He pledged to disseminate the information about the desk far and wide among students.

Dr. Musah also conveyed his excitement for hosting the desk within his office and expressed hope that the initiative would eventually evolve into a full-fledged office in the near future.

The new SLTF desk represents a crucial step towards enhancing student support services and ensuring that financial assistance is readily available and accessible, thereby contributing to the academic success and well-being of UDS students.
