UDS Maintains Position as Ghana’s 4th Best University in 2026 EduRank Rankings

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has once again demonstrated its growing stature as one of Africa’s leading institutions of higher learning, maintaining its position as the 4th best university in Ghana in the latest 2026 EduRank University Rankings. The achievement reinforces the University's reputation for academic excellence, impactful research, community engagement, and its unwavering commitment to development-oriented education.

According to the 2026 EduRank rankings, UDS is ranked 4th in Ghana, 81st in Africa, and 3,077th in the world among 14,131 universities across 183 countries assessed by the ranking organization. The ranking places UDS among the continent's leading universities and within the top tier of higher education institutions globally.

The latest ranking represents another significant milestone in the University's journey toward becoming a globally competitive institution that combines academic excellence with practical solutions to societal challenges. It is also a strong endorsement of the quality of teaching, research output, innovation, and community engagement that have become hallmarks of the UDS brand.

EduRank is an independent, data-driven global university ranking organization that evaluates higher education institutions based on objective performance indicators. The ranking system utilizes one of the world's largest scholarly databases, analyzing more than 119 million scientific publications and over 3.1 billion citations. In addition to research performance, EduRank also considers factors such as institutional prominence and the impact of notable alumni in determining overall rankings. The platform currently ranks more than 14,000 universities from 183 countries worldwide.

Unlike many rankings that rely heavily on surveys and reputation scores, EduRank employs a methodology rooted largely in measurable academic outputs and research influence, making it one of the increasingly referenced global ranking systems for assessing university performance.

The University's performance in the 2026 rankings reflects years of sustained investment in teaching, research, innovation, international collaborations, and community-centred development initiatives. UDS continues to distinguish itself through its unique mandate of blending academic learning with practical field experience, particularly through its flagship Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP), which has become a model for experiential learning.

The ranking also highlights the growing visibility and impact of research conducted by UDS scholars across diverse disciplines, including agriculture, health sciences, environmental studies, social sciences, engineering, and development studies. According to EduRank data, UDS has produced over 6,700 scholarly publications that have attracted more than 81,000 citations globally, underscoring the University's increasing contribution to knowledge generation and policy-relevant research.

Maintaining its position as the fourth-best university in Ghana carries significant implications for the image and reputation of UDS. It signals to prospective students, researchers, development partners, industry stakeholders, and the international academic community that the University remains a credible and competitive institution capable of producing high-quality graduates and impactful research.

The recognition is also expected to strengthen the University's attractiveness to international collaborators, funding agencies, and development partners seeking to work with institutions that demonstrate excellence, relevance, and measurable impact.

For students and alumni, the ranking further enhances the value of a UDS education, while for staff it serves as recognition of their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to advancing the University's vision.

The achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the University's management, faculty, staff, students, alumni, governing bodies, and partners whose collective efforts continue to propel UDS to greater heights.

As the University continues to expand its academic offerings, strengthen research capacity, and deepen its engagement with communities, the 2026 EduRank ranking provides further evidence that UDS is steadily consolidating its position as a leading institution not only in Ghana but across Africa and the wider global higher education landscape.

With this latest recognition, the University for Development Studies remains firmly on course in its quest to be a world-class institution dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and service to humanity.
